[Public-List] rudder shoe, gudgeons & pintles

Gordon,

I have already fitted the shoe on several boats...the shoe fits fine. Whitby
drilled the holes by hand when the shoe was installed on each boat. Each
shoe has a different hole pattern. You would NEVER be able to match the hole
pattern in your existing shoe (particularly since it is most likely not
straight and not centered). So what I recommend is having the 'new' shoes
drilled all the same. If you need to install one of the 'new' shoes, you
would first need to fill the old holes in the keel with epoxy and then
re-drill with the new shoe in place.

I would be interested in a rudder shoe and pintle/gudgeon pairs. My
shoe is old & worn, and it would be well to have a set as spares in any
case (depending on price)
Regarding never-used parts - someone should make sure the parts to be
used as "masters" are actually correct. In dealing with antique cars I
have occasionally found that a new, never-used part was not used for a
reason - it was somehow out of specs. Lets not use one as a pattern
unless we are certain it is correct.
