This might prove helpful... To avoid replacing the cap on my boat, I
tapped for the next oversize capscrew (also tapped the rudderpost), and
ground the sides of the cap and filed the tiller-end fitting flat and
parallel. Then filled the gap with stainless washers. This seems to be
holding up well, into the second season, although long-term durability
is unknown. No more play, which is a big improvement.

No idea on the straps that attach the rudder to the rudder-post.
