On Isa Lei, I used Minwax's Exterior Polyurathane, not a marine grade, but
exterior.  It has done well for 7 years.  If the old finish is in reasonable
shape you could get away with sanding, if not sand to bare wood and start from
there.  Use 220 wet paper between coats.
