AARRRGGGHHHHHH, we sailors be a roudy bunch, Greg, and if anyone takes "abit
of offence' at anything you might have said after a grog or two, or coming in
after hell's own watch on deck, then you just pick up a belaying pin,(or a
bronze merriman winch handle!!!!)  and you tell 'em what for!
As for the sand eventualy collectting dirt alongside it- it s true, that does
occur , and the trick is to use the commercial friction sand, which comes in
white or black, and is very fine. The other trick is to distribute the sand
very evenly, and not too densely, so that dirt wont have as high a
predisposition to get caught by it.
