Check the bylaws, particularly Part II paragraph 5: "The maximum
length of spinnaker/whisker poles used when racing shall not exceed
10'9", the maximum ''J'' dimension." Anything longer than that
will disqualify you for racing (which might not be a big deal for
you). We bought a 10'8" pole from Bacons when we got Calypso. Ours
is 3" diameter, but that's a pretty hefty pole for an Alberg 30.
I like that size, but many people use a 2.5" or 2" pole.
