This is a common problem. I replace my rudder post head a couple
years ago, but the new one is already got some play. The top view
of the rudder post looks like this:

	     -------------------------- "ears"
	    /           /
	    |           |
            V           V

	 __ __          __ __
	 || ||          || ||
	 -- --          -- --  -|
      ========================| |  <--- bolt 'A'
	 -- --          -- --  -|
	 || ||__________|| ||
	 || |            | ||
	 || | <----------------- fitting on end of rudder post
	 ||  \          /  ||
	 | \  \        /  / |
	 |  \  --------  /  |
	 |   ------------   |
	 |                  | <-------- tiller yoke
	 |   ------------   |
	 |  | ---------- |  |
	 |  ||          ||  |
	 |  ||          ||  |
	 ---  ----------  --   -|
      ========================| |  <--- tiller bolt
	 ---  ----------  --   -|
	 |  ||          ||  |
	 |  ||          ||  |
	 |  ||       <----------------- tiller
	 |  ||          ||  |
	 |  ||          ||  |
	 ---  ----------  --   -|
      ========================| |  <--- tiller bolt
	 ---  ----------  --   -|
	 |  ||          ||  |
	  -- |          | --
	     |          |
	     |          |
	     |          |
	     |          |
	     |/\/\/\/\/\|

The problem is that the ears on the tiller head get compressed
toward each other. Tightening bolt 'A' through them helps only
temporarily and increases the problem. What's needed (in my
opinion) is a bushing between the ears.

Does anyone know a source of bronze or stainless tubing? It
has to have an inside diameter large enough for the bolt,
5/16" if I remember correctly, and relatively thick walls.
