Fellow A-30 sailors,
After removing my mast plate and observing the corrosion where the
SS bolts go through the Aluminum plate (I was lucky to get it out without
drilling the bolt heads) I had what I believe is a good idea.

I have in the past used a product by the name of "Helicoil Thread Repair
Kit"" which is a fix for stripped threads............. It consists a a
stainless steel thread , along with a special tap which allows you to drill
out the stripped threads (slightly over size) and then insert the SS
insert which in essence is a "new thread". It would (in my opinion) be a
great fix for the "SS in "aluminum" dilemma........The SS thread which is
threaded into the aluminum may be effected by corrosion , but that would be
of no concequence in that you would not be removing the thread...........on
the other hand , the SS thread insert which would be in contact with the SS
bolt or fastner would not be effected by galvantic action.Allowing the bolt
or fastner to be removed and replaced as needed.

I would welcome any feedback on this premise...............If I do not get
any convincing negative feedback........I will proceed , and report back !

Tom S.
