I am currently looking into replacing the original tiller cap and strap on 
Carina Vela. The unit currently installed has excessive wear which causes 
significant play in the tiller and very little meat left in the cap. The 
tiller on Carina Vela has a thread screw/pin in the forward center of the 
cap which screws into the rudder stock. Did Whitby continue with this 
design into the later years or change with newer 70's designs? Edson and 
Spartan currently manufacture a tiller cap and strap which require a key 
vs. the threaded pin design.  Has anyone found a direct replacement which 
is currently available? The other options would be a group purchase through 
the A30 Association if fellow Alberg owners were in need of a new tiller 
cap and strap.
