Robert,

I have a depth sounder mounted in mine. (Actually a fishfinder - a digital
depthsounder false alarms on fish and turbulence - a fishfinder normally
will show both fish and the bottom.) I have a 100 amp alternator and did
have some trouble with electrical interference in the fishfinder, which was
not present with the original 335 amp alternator. I cleaned most of it up
with a filter although I suspect that the performance is still somewhat
degraded.

I would be leary of mounting a compass there as it is right above the
engine and all of its accessories. And also in my case, the electrical
panel. My compass is mounted on the left bulkhead and I can adjust it to
within a degree with no deviation table necessary. I am careful to avoid
putting any iron objects near that side of the bulkhead.
