Hello all,

This is just a thought, but I have never seen this theory mentioned before.
The exhaust on Wind Call is well out of the water at rest with two people
in the cockpit.. Under power at 5 - 5.5 knots it is completely submerged
under the stern wave. Is it possible that the stern wave has the effect of
increasing the effective waterline length when moving at this speed or
faster?

I always assumed that the A30 hull speed was 6.1 kts (1.3 * the square root
of the waterline length). Barbara and I had one wild spinnaker run (no
heeling) where we were holding over this hull speed and we dropped the
spinnaker when the speed surged to 7 kts a few times. The knotmeter had
been accurately calibrated before the cruise over a measured 1/2 mile and
the bottom was clean.

Does this idea make any sense?
