Gordon,

Inherit The Wind has wheel steering.  That said, I'd recommend fixing
the tiller play as an easier, cheaper, preferable solution.

The general problem with the Edson tiller head used on most boats
(mine, anyway) is that the ears on the back compress allowing play.
I've recently put a bushing in between those ears to prevent this.
So far, the results are terrific.
