As to the main bolt, it still goes through the mast in the same place.
The dual sheave arrangement is made into a unit. The sheaves are bolted
to the aluminum plates, and then the whole assembly is put into the mast
and secured with the old bolt. The trick is to make sure the the tops of
the sheaves are just above the line of the bolt so there is no
interference. In this was you drill no more holes in the mast than are
already there, and you end up with a very smooth halyrad since these
sheaves run on delrin balls. There is no corrosion problem with these
sheaves, and the will run smoothly forever.
