Regular enamel paint works OK, but,,, since the paint sokes into the rope it 
takes a very very long time to dry. You can reduce the drying time by using 
thinner line. 



The other thing that you might try is to saturate the line with something 
that hardens rather then something that dries. 

A thin resin such as Get-Rot  or West System might work but it will glue the 
line onto the pipe. 

A two part Polyurethane might also work.
