Above deck, almost any enamel, including spar varnish, will work, although I 
would recommend a one part polyurethane from a hardware store (no need to run 
up the cost).  Below deck you want a polyurethane because it will dry.  
Regular oil base takes too long for inside work.  This was learned too many 
years ago working on a 170 ton ketch out in Hawaii.
