Janet, The original owner replaced the gas  tank shortly before I purchased 
my boat, twenty years old at the time.  He complained about what a hard job 
it was to get it out and replace it in the starboard  locker.  It is, I 
believe, either 16  or 18 gallons.  It's so rare that I fill it from almost 
empty.  If you have it under the cockpit, how in the world would you get at 
the stuffing box? Russ
