I'm a little behind on the e-mails, so if you have gotten an answer
already please forgive me. Easy off oven cleaner works real well to
take off old painted on names. Put it on and let it soak for about 5
minutes and then scrap real lightly with a window scraper with a one
sided razor blade in it. We used a whole can of the oven cleaner on
ours last year to take off three layers of paint, all different
colors for the same name over the years. Afterwards I took some real
mild rubbing compound and worked on the transom and it came out
pretty good. Can hardly tell what we had done. Of course we replaced
the old painted on name with a new computer generated lettering but
it came out really good!! Hope that helps, any questions let me know.
