Hi Tom,
I installed the largest Bomar plastic hatchin my cockpit sole to get access 
to my stuffing box and water pump on the volvo diesel, and was unhappy with 
the 'give' the hatch door showed from the get-go, so right away I made a 
plywood cover to protect it, to be followed by a strong cockpit grating when 
I get to it.  The hatch should stay water tight if no one is walking on it, 
or jumping on it, etc.  The access I achieved is worth it.  Of course, the 
318.00 aluminum hatch is the way to go.
