Hi Lee,

at first I thought the % number of a genoa had to do with sail area but then
I saw the following explained in a book.

With a jib, imagine a line extending from the tack of your jib to a point on
your forestay so that it meets the forestay at 90 degrees. Mesure that
distance, that will be considered the 100%.

Then measure the imaginary line between the tack of your genoa to a point on
your forestay so that it also meets the forestay at 90 degrees. If it is say
40% longer than the distance measured above, it is a 140%.

So if you measured 10 feet with the jib, and you then measure 14 feet with
the genoa, then it is a 140%.
