I had a Universal diesel for several years on my previous boat and while in 
Australia/Asia I was curious about where to get parts.  After looking around 
helplessly for a few weeks, an Aussie told me that my basic Universal engine 
was actually made by Kubota.  With a little extra research I found this to 
be true for all engine mechanical parts.  My conclusion:  Universal the 
"American diesel" is actually Japanese and parts are available world wide.
