John, I don't know about how your tiller is attached,  mine had a small bolt 
at the front of the tiller fitting to tighten it.  Of courst, by the time I 
got it, it was a little striped, and wouldn't hold at all.  I tried to make 
sure it was centered,  then carefully drilled a 1/4 " hole through the shaft 
and the tiller head, put a stainles bolt, and a cap nut on it.  now it is has
