Lee,

    You remind me of Radio Row, in  downtown New York, where there were
all sorts of junk shops with "electronic" gear in the 1950s, surplus
from World Wars I and II, that I used to poke through for interesting
stuff. All gone now, demolished to build the World Trade Center. There
might be a few left around Canal Street, but not like it was.
