Hi, it's usual to use a dpuble bridal set up. On my boat ther is a dead eye
right behind the two forward mooring cleats. I attach a snapshackle and block
to this. A line with a snap shackle runs through this..The snapshakle
attaches to the lower bridal, and the line runs along side the cabin (
througha couple of fairleads) so trimming is done in the cockpit. Always set
up the pole with the JAWS UP. otherrwise, if you loose control, and the pole
"skies" ( goes way up) you can break the end fitting. The upper bridle is
attached to a line and block about half way up the mast. This line is also
lead to and trimmed in the cockpit. Both of the pole controls, the lift and
the donwhaul should be close to each other fot ease intrimming. I Once sailed
with an old salt who lead his Spin guy through a block on the rail. Did not
use a down haul. When you Gibed it was neccesary to but the new guy in the
snatch block on the other side. In some cases you could leave them both ( guy
and sheet ) in the blocks all the time. The pole would be end for ended.
Its also easiest to locate the pole on the deck. fittings are sold to hold
the pole ends. This is less windage than mast storage, or lifeline storage.
