[alberg30] Messages to the entire list...

Tue Jan 19 08:41:27 PST 1999

Dan is right on this. The Alberg30 list is not intended to be
general-purpose chat. A corollary to this, when a communication
is only of interest to two people, it really is much better to
send it only to the interested recipient rather than reply to
the list.

A mailing list gives a lot of power in that enables mass
communications with a group of individuals with a common
interest. With that power comes responsibility. When
sending to the list, you are no longer just talking to
a friend; you are now in the realm of publishing, however
informal it may be. Please try to make your posts both
readable and relevant to the recipients as a whole.

This is not intended to discourage anyone from using the
mailing list. Just give it a bit of thought.

On the other hand, it is possible to set your subscription
to "digest" mode and receive a single email each day,
containing all the messages posted in the previous day.
This has its own inconveniences, but may be a preferable
setting for some people, particularly those who only
check their email once a day.
