Tom, you're right about the actual hp required to move the boat.  I swing a
13/7 prop, and usually run at 1400 rpm.  1500 gives 6.5  knots in smooth
water.  They are esentially a tractor engine, and moderate rpm's will prolong
the life.  I think 1400 rpm is about 11 hp in the A-4 specs.  But, you don't
want to run any engine wide open to cruise.  I like the concept of using 50%
of available rpm's.
