Recommendations:

-Schaffer 1100 roller furling.

-Don't shorten the Main, leave it stock, too much helm, flatten it out
with the outhaul, drop the traveller to leeward. Reef after that and
keep your head down - a good practice to follow believe me.

-Convert your big genoa to every day roller furling, keep the jib ready
for the heavy stuff and convert it to furling, Schaffer has two luff
grooves for double wing on wing down wind, drop the main for this
manoeuvre.

-If they're old sails budget for a new Roller Genoa before buying a
drifter, you'll still need a pole down wind with an asymmetrical chute,
try the double headsail trick first before committing.

-Have your new genoa cut flat and optimized to be a number 1.

-I had a wheel on our A-30, personally if I'd known how well the boat
handles and feels with a tiller I'd have thrown the wheel/pedistal
overboard ASAP.

-Joe Fernandez of Triton Sails is still in business, made a great
inventory for us, he is in Mississaugga, Ontario, Canada - under NAFTA
you can probably bring the sails in duty free, cost is in Canadian
dollars which is highly favourable to Americans. Joe built your
original sails when he was with the Taylor Loft as factory supplier for
Whitby Boat Wks. Joe's Tel: 1-905-891-8166.

-Carry your big head sail and reef first in heavy air, don't change down
until at least the first reef, possibly the second, as the boat needs
the power of the bigger head sail to move through waves upwind.

Fair winds,

John Birch, Sunstone KC-65
