I've sailed around Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, PEI and related parts. If you
do go to PEI, make sure to include the Bras D'Or of Nova Scotia and the
Magdalen Islands as part of your intinerary.

The whole region is beautiful, must-see, with generally good sailing. The
waters can be cold and on the Atlantic side are subject to some heavy fog
(the ice-cold Labrador current collides with the warm-water Gulf Stream off
Newfoundland). PEI sailing is very good. Reasonable winds, the water is
(relatively) warm. You can get some pretty dense fog (I sailed into
Charlottetown, the island's capital, in extreme pea soup).
