George, I have my first and second reef on the starboard side of the boom, and
the flatening reef on the port side..   mostly I don't have the second reef
rigged for our local races, just long ones where you have a couple humdred
miles to go.  One less line on the boom, and less windage, and less comotion
on the leach of the sail.  I think all those little things count.  And Lk St
Clair has a lot of light air.  I think you will really like that flatening
reef in anything over ..say...14--15Knots of air, especally going to windward.
sometimes I even use it on a power reach where the boat wants to roll down and
climb to weather.  You'll learn to love it in no time at all.  Lots of times
you won't have to go to that first reef.
