Greg, do you know how to progran a GPS?  Loran works about the same, exept 
simpler. Usually has buttons to push to direct your progress.  Write to the 
company, and they might send you a book.   The coupler should have come with 
the loran.  The coupler isn't much use alone.  Ask your doaner for it 
perhaps.  Loran is much more trustworthy in the Great Lakes than a 
GPS.,,,,you never know if, and how much, the goverment is doing to diddle 
with it.  paying another $400-500 to make it accurate with radio waves makes 
it about as accurate as a Loran.  A lot of pilots still use Loran, because it 
is more precise.  I can go back to a bouy, the same 30 ft off, over and over. 
 with GPS I might be on the rocks.  I have a loran, and two small GPS units.  
If push came to shove, I'd trust the Loran first.  I have a feeling they will 
have Loran even longer than two years,  more like 15.
