With respects to George and the other salts, DON'T buy the bullet shaped
zincs from Faucets!
When we did our first out of the water refit on #499 in Oct 1997, I asked
the same question about the zincs and I got the same answer. I then
promptly ordered several from Faucets. Several days later I got a box full,
and sure enough like George says, I guess you have to cut the ends off to
make them fit. Which freaked me out and I didn't do it. But my marina at
the time, the kind with six-fingered guys who drink beer, weld things,
work on Atomic 4's and old boats--all at the same time, insisted there was
a zinc, already made for the placement on the A30 shaft ( and such boats
like it). It took those six-fingered guys, lots of beer, and thankfully no
arch welders to find it in a catalogue.
Its called a P2 (maybe a catalogue part number) and regretfully I dont know
what company makes it. But if you give me a day or two look through my
maintenance notes I am sure I can find out some more info and pass it
along. I was so impressed with the P2 and the way it fit, I sold the other
zincs for a $1.00 a piece at a swap meet and I wrote down (somewhere) how
to get more. I bought 2 at the time. As far as I know its not in the West
marine or M&E catalogues. Maybe Davis? Let me get some more info...
Bear with me,
Joe Tokarz #499
