Greg,

If your A30 has an insulated backstay, use that for an antenna instead of
buying a whip for the loran. It is much more efficient than a whip and is
completely out of the way. I have my coupler in the lazarette with the wire
connecting the coupler and insulated portion of the backstay taped to the
uninsulated portion of the backstay. The wire leads out of the lazarette
under the weatherstripping of the hatch. Most antennas are critical as far
as length, but since loran operates at 100 KHertz (a very low frequency),
the coupler can't tell the difference between 52 inches and the
30-something foot length of the insulated backstay. And you can finally
justify the topping lift-catching upper insulator on the backstay!
