My marina uses only 4 plus a forefoot without any problem, even with the 
occasional hurricane that passes over Annapolis.  And they routinely will 
reset one (at a time) to paint under. We do have a nice solid concrete 
base, though.  I'm not sure of the criteria they use to decide when to use 
more stands on larger boats. Alberg 30's are comfortable with 2 pair.
