Further, re batteries, remember to check the water level. I checked mine while
pre-winterizing the boat recently (I hope we get some indian summer weekends yet,
though this one does not look too good) and found the engine battery was pretty low.
Best to add distilled water, not out of the tap. The "house" batteries were not low
at all, but get less use.
I think even the little maintenance charger will create some off-gassing in a
lead acid battery, though a lot less than if one leaves a regular trickle charger
hooked up. Mine shuts off at 14 volts (not 13.5) so does not put a charge in except
when needed, and from observing it briefly, not that often. I once fried a battery by
leaving a trickle charger on it - evaporated all the water -
