Hi Matt,
If you don't want to cover your boat completely for whatever reason, you can 
put 4 2x4's for and aft over the cockpit, from the aft end of the doghouse, 
to the aft end of the cockpit, and  then throw a 10 x 15 cover over the 
doghouse and aft. This should keep the cockpit drains and seacocks clear.
Living in Nova Scotia must be beautiful.  When i can, I'm goint to visit you!!
