I have had one of those Bomar hatches in the cockpit sole for 10+ years
and though it does have a little "give" it has  not given any trouble -
has not given way even when jumped on. (I don't see how you service the
engine & shaft without it)

    My Westerbeke runs a bit rough at low RPMs too. Have not found a
solution to that. I get 4.6 kts @ 1,900 RPM and 6+ at 3,000. Mine is a
21 and it has more power than I can really use. It can certainly get to
hull speed, even in a head wind & chop.
