John:
I just read your e-mail of 12-3-00 regarding the water tank in the bow. Some
years ago, that bow water tank on my Alberg 30 was leaking. So I had
Deaton's Yacht Service in Oriental, NC cut a hole in the top of the water
tank about 8 inches in diameter and use that as an access port to seal the
interior edges of the tank with epoxy. Then a clear acrylic plate was
installed over the hole for use as an inspection port. Silcone caulk was
used in conjunction with about eight, small stainless steel bolts with
washers and nuts to fasten the inspection port. I has never leaked since.
Now, to answer your question. The place to cut is below the seat which is
situated between the berths. The top of the tank is below the plywood bottom
of the seat. We cut out the entire plywood seat bottom and used it as an
insert/cover with a one-inch finger hole to pull it out. When you cut out
the plywood, the tank top will be revealed about one-half inch below the
plywood.
I don't think that this meets the strict definiton of ironic, but it is the
only word I can think of to the describe the fact that heretofore, I thought
that my old Alberg 30 was #33. I never was completely sure about the number.
Now I really don't know, but our boats must have been built close to each
other.
Good luck with your project.
Fred Emmerson
