[alberg30] A4 engine mounts in A30

My A4 engine is shimmed with what appears to be plywood and sections of tire tread. I've never carried out an alignment, and I can't imagine how to do  it with this type of material as shims. Is this typical? Does anyone have a better arrangement for their A4 equipped A30? Any comments would be much appreciated.
