[alberg30] transducers and leaks

Two items

I replaced the old Ray jeff depth sounder in my boat with a new one. I had
a water box under a berth. I cut out the old transducer and epoxied in the
new transducer bracket and fiberglassed the box back up. When I removed the
old transducer, I appeared that the liquid I removed from the box was
anti-freeze. I also remember folks suggesting mineral oil. Is mineral oil
preferred over antifreeze? If I use antifreeze, will I get false readings?

At the beginning of this season, I emptied the RV anti-freeze that i had put
in my water tank and fill the tank with fresh water, completely pumping it
out. I then re-filled the tank and before I knew it, the water was flowing
through the system into the sink. I then thought, why not continue to fill
the tank and let the pressure flush out the system. Wrong. After about five
minutes, my wife asked me where the water was coming from that was coming
out of the hanging locker. Guess what? The plate on top of the tank was not
water tight and water had run into the all the compartments under the
berths. Only when it was high enough in the compartments that it
encountered a hole did it flow into the next compartment. Upon filling the
bottom of the hanging locker it overflowed onto the cabin sole.

My hull number is 90 and I have an access panel in the top of the V-berth to
get to the water tank. I don't recall exactly what the clearance is, but I
will be going to my boat in the next day or two and I will measure it.

Peter, I see your number 478 probably has the interior liner -- mine does
not. Maybe I can cut a new access hatch in the plywood V-berth base, over
top of the water tank. But then do I risk damaging the tank underneath? And

is there enough clearance between the plywood and the tank for a jigsaw
blade
to cut?

You might be right about the leak from a full water tank from fasteners at
the top of the tank. My boat pitched fore and aft a good deal from prop
wash
while tied up in the marina. I suppose the motion could have sloshed the
water over leaky spots at the top of the tank. When she's on her mooring,
she lies much more calmly, with little fore-and-aft pitching. So maybe
that's the cause.

Does anyone with an older A30 have any suggestions? Is it possible to cut
an
access hatch above the tank? If so, how?
