Sounds like good thinking and great work.But I would suggest using something 
other than oak for two reasons:
    1)It has very poor rot resistance, which is especially important 
characteristic to have in wood that is likely to be exposed to moisture, 
especially fresh water moisture as would anything in or near the bilge (bilge 
water is often rainwater that leaks in from hatches and decks)
    2)It is known that oak does not take well to being fiberglassed, due to 
its acid content.
Mahogonny and Douglas Fir are much to be preferred.
