Owen,

I don't think happy99 is causing your machine not to boot.  More
likely it's a bad device driver.  Can you boot into safe mode?
If so, then you can go into hardware settings and turn off various
bits until it boots, then turn the ones that didn't fix it, back
on.  Have you upgraded any software or drivers lately?  I'm 
especially wary of the "automatic" updates over the web.  I always
try to disable those.
