Phil,

The wheel is in the way under way and at anchor. With a tiller the cockpit
is completely clear at anchor.

We used to cruise a lot under auto pilot and I made a tiller that pivots
just forward of the point on the tiller that connects to the auto pilot.
This means that under auto pilot, with the second pivot in use, the tiller
only uses about 15-18 inches of space in the cockpit. It also eliminates
the possibility of someone falling on the tiller with the auto pilot
engaged and breaking the tiller. Also, auto pilots are much cheaper with
tiller steering than with wheel steering.

The A30 cockpit is too small for wheel steering. Also I agree with the
comments that tiller steering is better on a boat like the Alberg.
