On the other hand, my pressurized alcohol Homestrand works great, small flames when preheating, cooks fine with cast itron skillets. Flush mount, and serves as a cutting board when closed.

John,
get rid of it. Get a NON-pressurized alcohol stove. They are much safer. Origo makes a few models, and even a portable heater unit that doubles as a stove.

Subject: [Alberg30] Alcohol Stove
I have took my stove out to clean up and see if I could make it work. It was in sad shape when I bought the boat last year. It is a Homestrand, Model 206 made in Larchmont, NY. It cleaned up OK. It seemed to work like my old backpacking stove. It needs to heat up before it starts mixing air and fuel effectively. When I started it up it really flamed. Is this normal and if so, are there any tricks so as not to burn the boat.
