Hi Lisa,
I bought my Alberg with the holding tank already installed but I will be glad to share some of the details.
It is a 5 gallon rigid tank specifically designed for use as a holding tank. The tank was installed under the port v-berth and so eliminated the storage that would normally be there. The installation also includes a manual pump out as well as a deck mounted pump out pipe. the choice between manually pumping out through the original thru-hull or using the deck fitting is made with a "Y" valve.
My tank came with electrical contacts built into the top hatch so that a light or gauge could be used although I have not added this.
I would recommend that you do a couple of things differently if you can. First, try to use a bigger tank. My family of four, equally distributed by age and gender, keeps the pump outs frequent in the heavy season. Second, if you can design the tank into the head area behind the toilet, you may have an easier time with the plumbing (both cleaning and access) as well as saving the storage under the berth.
This is not a job I envy. Good luck.
