Alan,

If you check the handbook page 31 rule #5 it specifies: "The maximum length
of spinnaker/whisker poles used when racing shall not exceed 10'9", the
maximum "J" dimension". My spin pole is 3" in diameter but it can be smaller
depending on your preference. We used Forespar trigger ends and hate them
because they are too hard to trip. I have actually taken the triggers out
and converted the ends to standard piston ends. I filled the pole with
Styrofoam shipping noodles hoping that it would float if we ever dropped it
overboard, but we have never had to test it, fortunately. Then again -
there's always carbon fiber. Hope this helps.

with a thin spinnaker pole with a homemade rope bridle. It's more like a
reaching strut than a spinnaker pole. It works OK with the cruising
spinnaker, but seems the wrong size for the big radial one. The Cal Pole I
have is I believe 4" in diameter, and I am wondering if I can use this. So,
if those of you who have the correct pole could give me a dimeneion, i would
appreciate it.
