[Alberg30] Stainless Steel Trim piece between toerail and hull

Has anybody replaced all the screws holding the stainless steel trim piece
on the older versions.  Mine has a mixture of both flat and oval head, plus
several missing.  If so, what size did you use?  Several of the ones that
are missing are because the original holes have been reused too many times.
Is there any potential damage using a longer/larger screw provided the head
fits the trim?  Or, should one use some wood plugs to handle the problem?
Also, were the originals flathead or oval head?

Joe Tokarz (secretary at alberg30.org) has experience with trucking
an Alberg 30, having taken his across the country twice.
