I know that the A4 uses a Hurth transmission does the Graymarine engine use 
the same?

Tom,

This is a common complaint.  Going into forward gear the transmission
actually snaps into gear, however, reverse gear is just a clamping action on
a tapered surface.  There is no definite snap into reverse gear.

I have the manual for the 1965 vintage Grey Marine engine.  I will copy the
section on adjusting the transmission and send it to you tomorrow.

Has anyone experienced difficulty in engaging reverse.
I have a Grey Marine engine.  Forward is O.K. with plenty of power but
reverse seems very vague and produces little thrust.  It seems that the
shift lever is not moving far enough back but it can't go any further.

Any thoughts?
