[Alberg30] How to dismantle a Lewmar 30?

Trying to Dismantle an old Lewmar 30 Self Tailer with 2 speeds.

There are supposed to be 3 different ways.
1. New Lewmars have a thumb cap on top
2. older ones have o or snap rings.
3. This one has neither and supposedly I am suupposed to use a rubber mallet 
to bang the tailer counterclockwise. 

unfortunately this does not seem to work.


Any ideas?
