Dan,
I can vouch for the Fujinons that George mentions.  I bought the model with
the compass and I've been very happy with them, especially when compared to
the relative cost of their competition.  They're rubber coated, robust and
have a bright, clear view that makes them a pleasure to use.  I guess it
depends on how old your kids are, and if you're looking for a "toy" or if
they're ready for a pair of "real" glasses.

I don't know anything about optisan, but if you hop over to SailNet

can find some good Fujinon 7x50 Mariner binocs on sale for $120.
Just search for item FUJWP-XL

I think that's a really good buy for some excellent binoculars,
but if you want something cheaper, they've also got some
Tasco (item TAS2022BRZ) binoculars for $70.
