Never thought of mercury, but i did dream up this scheme to put water and 
diesel tanks amidships under the bunks and have both tanks split port and 
starboard with an equilization link and a pump for each. In SS fo course, 
with baffles to keep the bottom feed as far outboard as possible. 
Sure makes the winter nights pass quickly.
