Was the compass worth the expense? I think so, for what I use them for.
Although I also own a decent hand bearing compass, I usually use the
binoculars for sighting bearings. It's sometimes a little difficult when
the sailing is "lively", but my plotted triangles are usually small enough
for good confidence in the fix.
