Dick,
The pintles & gudgeons are along the rudder shaft. The shoe is
at the base of the rudder. I believe the older boats had a pin
made from a 1/2" bronze bolt. My boat had a solid 1" diam. piece of
brassy bronze that had been turned down to 1/2" at the end. I
had to remove this piece and cut it back to reach solid metal,
then drilled and tapped it for a 1/2" bolt. Then, for a pin, you
can just buy a standard bronze hex bolt and cut the head off.
